If you’re looking to visit a truly quintessential British seaside town, look no further than Bognor Regis. With multiple (award-winning!) beaches, calm waters, traditional amusement arcades, a whole host of eateries, and plenty of activities for children and adults alike, it’s no wonder it’s proven popular with holidaymakers for centuries.
In this guide, we’ll be showcasing each of Bognor Regis’ beaches – including everything you need to know to plan your next seaside getaway.
Bognor Regis East Beach
Starting with the town’s most popular beach due to its proximity to facilities, welcome to the Bognor Regis East Beach.
Located to the east of the Bognor Regis pier (more on that below!), this beach lies along the promenade, and is backed by various cafes, amusement arcades, and shops.
There are also showers on the promenade, toilets with disabled facilities, and parking is available nearby (during peak season, it’s worth getting there early to avoid missing out!) Lifeguards are also on patrol here between May-September, but note that dogs aren’t allowed on the beach between 1st May – 30th September.
Bognor Regis West Beach
Over on the west of the pier, you’ll find Bognor Regis West Beach – the East Beach’s quieter neighbour.
Refreshments are available at the kiosk based here, but you will need to walk over to the pier entrance for toilet facilities. There’s nearby parking – but as with the East Beach, it’s worth getting here early during peak season to avoid missing a space.
Dogs aren’t allowed on the beach between 1st May – 30th September.
Felpham Beach
A little further out of town, but still within walking distance of the pier, Felpham beach is a quieter alternative to the beaches located in the centre.
With beach huts, cafes, tennis courts and an 180-hole putting green nearby, you’ll still benefit from the quintessential English seaside ambiance – but its slightly quieter surroundings mean you’ll be more likely to find parking here, too!
For those of you keen to take to the sea, paddleboards can be hired from nearby hotels, and kayaking also proves popular with locals thanks to the typically-calm seas. Toilets are accessible, but dogs are banned from the beach between 1st May – 30th September (visit the nearby Climping Beach for a dog-friendly beach year-round).
Elmer Sands Beach
Moving further east still, Elmer Sands Beach can be found between Felpham Beach and Climping Beach. Here, dogs are allowed year-round, and the rock pools make for a truly interesting and exciting activity during low tide – expect to find crabs, fish, shells and more!
Parking is possible here – although it’s not as close to the beach as others on this list. There are also no cafes or toilets here, but there are shops and pubs available in Elmer, a short 5-10 minute walk away from the beach. Dogs are also allowed on the beach year-round.
Aldwick Beach
On the entirely opposite side of the pier, over on the west, lies Aldwick Beach.
It may be further out of town, but the off-road parking makes this a popular option (be warned: spaces are limited, and fill up fast!) There’s a cafe serving up a range of refreshments here, and toilets can be found in nearby West Park – a great location for a run around.
Aldwick Beach feels like more of a local spot, and is typically much quieter than the beaches found closer to the pier – but it’s still just as special and well worth a visit when you’re in the area. Plus, dogs are welcome year-round, making it a fantastic option for those visiting with their furry friends.
Pagham Beach
Moving further west still, you’ll come to Pagham Beach in the nearby village of Pagham.
Popular with watersport enthusiasts, it’s known as being a great base for windsurfing and sailing – and there’s even a yacht club here.
The unspoilt wetland here also makes it a great spot for bird watching and wildlife spotting. Paid-for parking is available at the beach, dogs are welcome year-round, and you can also find cafes and toilets here.
If you’re visiting on your holidays, this beach will truly make you feel like you’ve discovered a local gem.
Bognor Regis Pier
Now that we’ve explored Bognor Regis’ beaches, let’s talk about a seafront landmark you’ll be able to spot from a number of them:
The Bognor Regis Pier.
Visited by hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers since its opening in 1865, the pier is visible from many of the beaches on this list. With an amusement arcade and bar located on it, and an incredible view out over the ocean and back along the coastline of Bognor Regis, it’s well worth a visit while in the town.
Dog friendly beaches in Bognor Regis
While the busier beaches on this list typically only allow dogs on them during the low season (1st October – 30th April), there are still a variety of options for visitors – even during the busy summer months.
