One of the reasons we believe wellness staycations in the UK are set to soar in 2026 is because over the past year, because as a Sussex holiday let management company, we’ve noticed a quiet but meaningful shift in how our guests are choosing to travel. Increasingly, it’s not about going further or doing more, it’s about finding the right environment to slow down, breathe and reconnect. Beautiful homes will always be at the heart of what we offer as a holiday let management company, but more and more guests are seeking something deeper from their stay.

And Sussex, quite naturally, lends itself to exactly that.

A New Kind of Wellness Travel

When people hear the word “retreat”, they often imagine a packed schedule of activities or a highly structured programme.

What we’re seeing instead is something far more intuitive.

Guests are increasingly drawn to wellness-led escapes that feel flexible and personal. The kind where mornings might start with a coastal walk or quiet yoga practice, followed by long lunches, good conversation and evenings spent by the fire.

It’s less about doing more, and more about creating the right environment to simply be. One of the best ways to do this is by taking advantage of our bespoke concierge services to add in experiences such as: in-house massage, a private yoga or breathwork class or a fine dining experience prepared by our collection of private chefs for hire.

This more relaxed approach to wellbeing is exactly what makes the UK luxury wellness staycation such an appealing option.

Why Sussex Is Perfect for Wellness Staycations in the UK

One of the reasons we founded The Butler Collection was because we felt Sussex offered something quite special.

Within a relatively small stretch of landscape, you have access to open countryside, coastal air and peaceful villages, all within easy reach of London and the South East.

For guests seeking restorative travel, that combination is powerful.

There’s something about the rhythm here that encourages you to slow down. A morning walk across the South Downs, a swim in the sea, lunch at a local vineyard (follow us on Instagram for local guides) or farm shop, it all adds up to a kind of natural reset.

And when those experiences are paired with a home that feels calm, comfortable and thoughtfully designed, the effect can be transformative.

Bringing Wellness Retreats to The Butler Collection

As we’ve watched the demand for wellness-led travel grow, we began thinking about how we could offer something more intentional for our guests.

This year, we’re very pleased to be introducing wellness retreats hosted in collaboration with local holistic practitioner Charlotte Wickins Wellbeing.

Charlotte has been facilitating retreats and therapeutic sessions in West Sussex for many years and brings a deeply personal approach to her work. Drawing on kinesiology (Kynergy), talking therapies, yin yoga, therapeutic massage and life coaching, she creates experiences designed to support each guest individually.

I love to hold a safe space for Human DO-ings to transform back into Human BE-ings!” ~ Charlotte Wickins

What we particularly value about Charlotte’s work is that it isn’t prescriptive.

Rather than following rigid retreat formats, her approach focuses on meeting people where they are, offering space, support and guidance in equal measure.

A Retreat Experience That Feels Personal

These retreats will take place within carefully selected homes across The Butler Collection, including:

Marble Bridge Farm, Sidlesham

A beautiful 16th-century farmhouse, a harmonious blend of historic charm and modern luxury.

Coles House, Selsey

A large Georgian home, full of charm, character, and space. A seaside break with a touch of elegance.

The Lookout, Brighton

(Launching soon!)

Hosting retreats within private, premium holiday homes creates a very different atmosphere from traditional retreat centres. There’s a sense of ease and intimacy that allows guests to relax more quickly and settle into the experience.

You’re still surrounded by beautiful interiors and landscapes, but the focus shifts toward how the space makes you feel, calm, comfortable and supported.

It’s wellness travel that feels natural, rather than performative and without the airfare.

What This Means for Our Guests

For those who already enjoy staying with us, this simply opens up another way to experience the Collection.

Some guests may choose to join a guided retreat with Charlotte and her network of somatic practitioners. Others may prefer to incorporate smaller wellness moments into their stay, perhaps arranging a private yoga session, a massage or simply spending time outdoors. All of which can be arranged to the finest detail by uour dedicated concierge manager.

Both approaches are equally valuable.

What matters most is that guests leave feeling better than when they arrived, and from what our reviews say – they always do.

Looking Ahead as a Sussex Holiday Let Management Agency

As we look forward to what’s to come in 2026, it’s clear that travel, particularly luxury staycations in Sussex are continuing to evolve.

Guests aren’t just searching for beautiful places to stay, they’re searching for experiences that support how they want to feel when they return home. After all, people will always remember how you made them feel.

That’s why we believe wellness staycations in the UK will continue to grow, and why we’re excited to bring this new offering into the Collection.

For us, it’s a natural extension of what we’ve always tried to create: homes that offer more than just accommodation, and stays that leave a lasting impression long after you’ve left.

We’re seeing a clear shift: personalised luxury staycations in the UK are evolving – and it’s happening quickly. As a Sussex holiday home management agency we’ve got our finger on the pulse. Beautiful homes alone are no longer the defining feature of a memorable stay. Today’s guests are looking for experiences that feel tailored to their pace, preferences and purpose.

This is the rise of personalised luxury staycations, a movement reshaping how guests choose to travel in 2026 and beyond.

Whether it’s a restorative coastal weekend, a countryside reset or a thoughtfully curated celebration stay, travellers are moving away from generic escapes. They want environments that feel considered, intuitive and aligned with how they want to spend their time.

Here’s what that future looks like, and what it means for guests seeking something more meaningful from their time away.

What Personalised Luxury Staycations Mean Today for Sussex Holiday Homes

From an industry perspective, personalisation has become the new benchmark of luxury. It’s the difference between simply visiting somewhere and feeling genuinely supported by your surroundings.

Guests increasingly gravitate toward stays that offer:

  • Spaces that match the intention of the trip – restful, social or reflective
  • Recommendations shaped by real local knowledge
  • Flexibility over rigid itineraries
  • Homes curated for atmosphere rather than uniformity

For guests, this translates to something simple but powerful: your stay adapts to you, not the other way around. There’s no pressure to follow a schedule or “make the most” of every moment, just the freedom to travel in a way that feels natural.

Luxury becomes less about excess and more about relevance, how seamlessly a stay fits your energy, your interests and your desired pace.

Why Personalisation Is Defining UK Luxury Travel in 2026

Looking ahead, travel behaviour is becoming more intentional. We’re observing guests prioritising stays that feel intuitive and adaptable, particularly as modern life becomes more demanding.

Several patterns are shaping this transition:

Guests Expect Autonomy

Travellers want the freedom to design their own rhythm – slow mornings, spontaneous outings, uninterrupted rest.

What this means for you: your time away feels restorative rather than structured, with space to follow what feels right in the moment.

Wellness Has Become Environment-Led

Wellbeing is increasingly tied to setting rather than schedule. Quiet homes, natural light and connection to nature support guests in regulating their own pace.

The benefit: your surroundings do much of the work, helping you feel calmer without effort.

We’ve thrilled to announce that we’re in partnership with local Holistic Practitioner, Charlotte Wickins Wellbeing, to bring wellness retreats to our Collection this year. Register your interest for upcoming retreats, here.

Shorter Breaks Carry Greater Weight

With micro-stays on the rise, expectations are higher. Even a long weekend should feel like a genuine reset.

For guests: personalisation ensures your stay is intentional, so every moment counts without feeling rushed.

Together, these shifts position personalised luxury staycations as the natural evolution of domestic travel – a getaway without the airfare – one that prioritises how you feel when you leave.

Homes as the Foundation of Personalised Luxury

One of the most noticeable changes is how guests now evaluate where they stay. The most sought-after properties aren’t simply visually impressive – they offer environments that respond to individual needs.

Homes that support personalised luxury tend to share qualities such as:

  • Privacy and calm
  • Flexible, thoughtfully designed spaces
  • Strong connection to the landscape
  • Character and authenticity
  • Locations that balance exploration with retreat

For guests, this means stepping into a space that immediately feels supportive. Whether you’re seeking movement, stillness, celebration or solitude, the home becomes a framework for your experience, not a limitation.

‘Luxury’ becomes less about amenities and more about how the environment enhances your time away.

The Role of Concierge-Led Personalisation

True personalisation doesn’t happen by accident, it’s shaped through thoughtful curation and insider knowledge.

Our Luxury Concierge approach is designed to help you transform a beautiful stay into an experience that feels entirely your own. Rather than offering standardised packages, we work around your interests and intentions.

This might look like:

  • Curating local experiences aligned with your mood: wellness, food, nature or culture.
  • Recommending hidden gems you won’t find in guidebooks.
  • Helping plan special moments or celebrations.
  • Creating space for rest when that’s what you need most.

The goal is simple: to remove friction and elevate enjoyment, so your time away feels effortless and personal.

For guests, this means your personalised luxury staycation becomes more than accommodation, it becomes a thoughtfully guided experience shaped around you.

The Importance of Hyper-Local Insight

Another defining element of personalised luxury travel is access to meaningful local knowledge.

Guests increasingly value:

  • Insider recommendations over tourist checklists.
  • Seasonal experiences rooted in place.
  • Independent makers, food producers and hidden landscapes.

This layer of curation allows you to experience a destination more deeply, choosing what resonates rather than following generic itineraries.

Why This Trend Matters for the Future of UK Staycations

Personalisation reflects a broader cultural movement toward intentional living. Travel is no longer just an escape, it’s an opportunity to rest, reconnect and return home feeling restored.

For guests, this signals a future where:

  • Homes are chosen for how they make you feel.
  • Experiences adapt to your energy.
  • Travel supports wellbeing rather than overwhelms it.

The result is luxury that feels grounded, human and deeply satisfying.

A More Considered Future for Luxury Travel

As we move toward 2026, personalised luxury staycations are setting a new standard for how guests travel within the UK. The emphasis is shifting toward environments that support lifestyle, intention and wellbeing, not just destination.

With thoughtful homes and concierge-led curation, your stay becomes a reflection of what you need in that moment, whether that’s rest, celebration, exploration or quiet reconnection.

The future of luxury travel isn’t about doing more.

It’s about travelling in a way that feels entirely your own.

Meet the chef: Michael Sargent

If you’ve booked a private chef experience with The Butler Collection, chances are you’ll already recognise one of our head chefs, Michael Sargent.

Michael Sargant, The Butler Collection private chef, stands outside a luxury property

We recently sat down with Michael to find out more about his journey from kitchen porter to leading chef, and below, he’s sharing what guests can expect from a private chef experience with The Butler Collection, his favourite dishes, and The Butler Collection property that he considers ‘chef heaven’.

Tell us a little about your background – where did your journey as a chef begin, and what inspired you to pursue this career?

My journey began in my grandad’s pub The Henty Arms. I started as a kitchen porter when I was 12, earning money to buy skins in video games but I very quickly fell in love with food and being able to take a handful of ingredients turning them into whatever I wanted to, no rule book, no being told I can’t do that and then seeing smiles I’d put on people’s faces. Eventually I made the decision to drop out of school and pursue cooking full time at the pub. My career really got pushed to the next level when I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to work for Tom Kemble @ The Pass. He put me through college and taught me how to take a simple ingredient and turn it into something incredible.

You’ve cooked in some incredible places – how does the private chef experience differ from a traditional restaurant setting?

The private dining experience is unlike any other. It’s an incredibly intimate experience and I love it because from the get go I can build a rapport with the guest and fully tailor everything to their liking, creating a menu designed for them with all their favourite flavours and then putting my own twist on it. Picture going out to a restaurant where you’re the only table there, they’ve designed the menu just for you, the chef spends time at the table talking about the great quality produce in the dishes and not being in a rush to go and serve other people but then remember you’re doing that in the comfort of your own home.

What can guests expect when they book a private dining experience through The Butler Collection?

It depends a lot on what the guest is looking for, it could be a BBQ for 20 people or a 7-course dinner for a family of four. Whatever the occasion, they can always expect a smooth booking process, a team of people that are happy to accommodate any requests and an overall incredible experience on the day. We will always go above and beyond to make our guests happy.

What’s your process for putting together a menu?

Firstly I look at the special requests and any dietary requirements, after this I’ll look at what produce I can get that’s in season and high quality, and then I’ll play around with flavours in my head and type up what works well together.

What are some of your favourite dishes to cook for guests staying in Butler Collection homes?

My go to menu would probably be the Buratta & Heritage tomato salad for starter. For main course it has to be a barbecued rib of beef, which personally I love with chimichurri, some chantenay carrots and a side of caesar salad. Then for dessert I love making my “Baileys Cold Chocolate” which is essentially a really boozy pannacotta with loads of chocolate.

How do you cater to specific dietary needs or preferences?

I take dietary requirements very seriously, even when buying the ingredients for an allergenic dish I’ll keep it separate from the rest, same in the processes of preparation, cooking, transport and serving.

Kid-friendly meals very much depend on each child, so bookings are handled on a case-by-case basis to ensure everyone is happy – and well-fed!

You’ve cooked in a range of properties – do you have a favourite kitchen setup from The Butler Collection?

As much as I love the challenges of cooking beef wellingtons in the Aga at Marble Bridge Farm, my favourite has to be the Rook Retreat. The large island in the middle, kitchen open to the guests, two 4D Heat ovens and a beautiful induction stove top (it’s chef heaven) creates an even more intimate experience.

What do you enjoy most about working with Butler Collection guests?

I love the fact everybody I meet is different, I get to meet so many awesome people and show them what I love doing.

What’s your favourite thing about being a private chef?

Honestly.. I love everything about being a private chef. Working on a unique menu, then going to the house and meeting great people and giving them an incredible evening cooking some banging food. Like this isn’t a job, I don’t ever wake up thinking I’m going to work.. I just love it.

If someone’s never booked a private chef before, what would you say to tempt them to try it during their stay?

When you go out to a restaurant to celebrate something, you’re going to a place where you may not like the food, they may not cater for a certain allergy you have, you might have to get a babysitter and so much more.. If you book me, the event will be tailored around you.

I can say hand on heart you’ll enjoy the food, there’s no waiting for someone to walk past so you can order a drink, the food comes to you in the comfort of your own home. When you take everything into account, private chefs are actually great value for money.

Booking a private chef with The Butler Collection

Booking a private chef with The Butler Collection couldn’t be easier. Once you’ve reserved your property, our concierge team will work with you to organise your experience:

What our guests say

Since launching our private chef experience to The Butler Collection guests, we’re delighted to have received glowing feedback – including the following:

Fabulous weekend spent at The Rook Retreat. Such a perfect house for 11 of us to celebrate a special birthday. Thanks for the suggestion of the private chef also – he was great.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the concierge service that made our special day unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the team went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. For a once-in-a-lifetime occasion like proposing, they arranged an intimate and beautifully curated dining experience with a private chef. The chef created a personalised menu that left us speechless—it was clear they paid attention to every detail, ensuring it was not only delicious but also visually stunning.
