You know that thing where you stay somewhere and it feels like someone actually put thought into every square inch of the space? Sarah Moore has done just that at 15 Bond Street.

More than just a place to stay, this luxury getaway in Sussex feels like stepping into someone’s carefully curated story. From reclaimed details and character-filled interiors to sea views and spaces designed for slower moments, every corner has intention behind it.

This is part two of our interview with Sarah Moore, read part one here.

The Thoughtful Design Behind This Luxury Getaway in Sussex

One of the more unique things about this property, that I absolutely love, is the second bedroom. I’d love to hear more about your thoughts & the design that went into it.

“I think it just about works as a king size bedroom because it has got enough space to do whatever you need to do. If you’re coming here for a wedding, there’s place to hang up your clothes. There’s tea and coffee making facilities, and again, totally must have a really comfortable, well stacked bed. So the idea was originally to maybe have the bed going across, but because of all the insulation that we’ve had to put in the walls to make it really comfortable, stay in the beds this way. But actually, I think this is a great space. It’s got its own little radio, so it doesn’t have TV out here, but you can come here and really feel that you’re kind of in a she the top without the sheep. It’s a compact space, but I think it really does its job well.”

What Makes This Sussex Luxury Getaway Different?

Another amazing thing about this property is the south-facing garden, Sarah tell us a little bit more about what you’ve done here.

“Well, when I first came here, you could walk down and there was a tiny bit of paving left where you could get to the back of the garden. It was completely overgrown. By the time we had bought the house, it had really taken hold, so this was something that had to come out of the imagination. It is a great space. It’s south-facing. We’ve got a barbecue. It’s perfectly fine. Four or five, six people come here, have a drink. It’s always warm and sunny here, and it’s a great spot. It’s a good addition and it’s low maintenance. So good practical slabs on the ground. Hopefully a place that people really enjoy coming and spending some time with.

I think especially from the bathroom window, you can actually see the sea from the bathroom and apparently it’s the only house on the row where you can actually see that.”

Behind the Design of a Luxury Staycation in Sussex

The bathroom has to be one of the biggest statement pieces of this property. Tell us about the decision making that went into creating this unique space.

“We’ve gone for white and yellow striped tiles. I just think that it is really bright, it’s very practical floor, and I’ve tiled the whole of the shower and I think it fits well with the gold accessories. An old tablecloth I think is a really simple fix for a curtain just to have that on a little tension rod, but for me it makes it practical.

It’s all about reuse and restoration for me and this property, things like the boards used in the bathroom. The builder laugh because all of this wood is reclaimed and they’re like, “it’s got knots and holes in it.” And I said for me, I want this to feel like a house that’s been here for all of its 200 years, and I think it does that now. If it was a perfect MDF section on the wall, it wouldn’t feel quite like the character that I wanted.”

A Luxury Getaway in Sussex With Character in Every Tile

Well, one of the things actually I love the most is how you’ve taken the tile and flooring and then run it up along the back splash in the shower.

“I’m glad you spotted that. Lee was the guy who tiled this for me, who I worked with a lot, and he needed a strong cup of coffee and a cigarette after he’d done that one. But he did a really good job. He’s really nailed that one.”

Design Details That Bring This Sussex Getaway to Life

One thing that you will see as a guest running throughout this whole property where it be through the pillows, through the wallpaper, or any of the cushions that you’re using is flowers. So where did that come from?

“I just love it. The house we live in West Sussex, not far from here is an old farmhouse and it really doesn’t like a flower. So when I came here I was like, “you like flowers, don’t you?”

Inspired by this reclaimed picture, when you get close to it, you can see it’s actually got some holes in it. And when I was moving all of the furniture and stuff over to the house, my lovely husband came to help me and he likes to do everything at a hundred miles an hour. So we loaded up the car and the picture took a little damage as it was stacked up. So it’s a story. Put a bit of taping the back of it for me, perfection doesn’t need to be perfect. It’s such a lovely 1930’s gladiola picture and it kind of works with the flowers and the ethos.”
